Deciding what type of home you want (or need)
This is a very important part of the purchase process. Spend a few hours determining what your needs are before you begin your house search. Before you begin your journey for the perfect house, it is important that you make a realistic check list in an attempt to narrow your choices of properties. Many home buyers make the mistake of misinterpreting a want as a need. As a result, they often dismiss homes that perfectly fit their needs in search for one that has their wants. This is not to say that you cannot have what you desire in your home-just that you must be able to differentiate between what you truly need and what you would like to have. Also remember, if the house doesn't have what you want now you can always change that later.
You should consider how many people are in your family and how much space you will need. Here are some examples of needs and wants:
- Enough square footage for living space
- The right number of bedrooms to accomodate your family or visitors
- dining room or eat-in kitchen
- adequate number of bathrooms
- garage or basement for storage needs
- school district location
- property size to accomodate children and pets
- wood floors
- pool or jacuzzi
- bay windows
- skylights
- carpeting color
- exterior color
- pretty view
